Police Take Down Marihuana Grow Operation in Oliver Paipoonge Township

(Thunder Bay, ON) On September 1st, 2010 Drug Enforcement Unit officers executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act Search Warrant in Oliver Paipoonge Township with the assistance of officers from the Ontario Provincial Police and Thunder Bay Police Services’ Emergency Response Teams. 

Officers located an outdoor marihuana grow operation on the property and seized 323 adult marihuana plants.  Officers also seized approximately 16 kilograms of dried marihuana.  The street value on the drugs seized is approximately 630,000 dollars.

Charged is:

Douglas MacKay (57 years of age) of Thunder Bay.  Production of Marihuana, Possession of Marihuana for the Purposes of Traficking and Breach of Recognizance (two counts).

MacKay is being held in custody and will appear before the courts in Thunder Bay on September 2nd, 2010.

Police would like to remind the public that we are well into the marihuana growing season. Anyone with information on marihuana grows is encouraged to contact police or their local crime stoppers.

The Combined Forces Organized Crime Unit consists of members from The O.P.P.- Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, The Thunder Bay Police Service, The R.C.M.P., The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and The Anishinabek Police Service.
