CNIB – NDHN Partnership UPDATE

April 30th, 2010, OntarioNewsNorth.com reported on the announcement that the Canadian National Institute for the Blind Eye Van (CNIB) had partnered with the Northern Diabetes Health Network (NDHN) in an initiative funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to bring screening and education about diabetes, a disease which can contribute to serious eye problems and even blindness, to people in northern communities who had not previously been benefiting from the same access to services available in larger centres. UPDATE – Diabetes Health Fair in Manitouwadge

Manitouwadge residents can now benefit from this partnership as the CNIB Van will be visiting at the Recreation Centre in partnership with the MANITOUWADGE DIABETES HEALTH & WELLNESS PROGRAM Septemeber 9th (pm) and 10th, and 13th through 17th during which time Certified Diabetes Educator, Jackie Jung, RN CDE, and Registered Dietitian Pearl Giuliano will be hosting a variety of Diabetes Education and Screening Services. Educational workshops and diabetes screening are open to the community at large and will include give-a-ways and free cookbook draws. 

Eye van appointments require a doctor’s referral while all Diabetes Education and Screening Services are Drop-Ins held inside the Recreation Centre in NOSSA’s old office (snack shop).

Diabetes Education and Screening Services

  • Specialized diabetes educators on site
  • Early detection of diabetes through screening
  • Learn about the risk factors for diabetes

Times: 8:30am – 11:30 am and 1:30pm – 4:30pm
