OPP Celebrating Anniversary

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY FOR OPP ANTI-RACKETS BRANCH

50 Proud Years of Investigative Excellence

ORILLIA, ON – The Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is paying tribute to a specialty unit known for its high standard of policing and expertise in investigations of fraud and enterprise crime.

The OPP Anti-Rackets Branch marks the 50th anniversary of its creation in 2010. OPP Anti-Rackets has been instrumental in helping to solve many complex multi-jurisdictional investigations.  The Branch has significantly evolved over the years but continues to meet the changing needs of modern-day crime.

The electronic age, coupled with increased economic opportunities in an economy based on trust have significantly increased the number of investigations undertaken by members of Anti-Rackets Branch.

“As a result of the many specialty services provided by our organization, such as the investigative services of the Anti Rackets Branch, the OPP is renowned internationally for its policing excellence,” says Commissioner Chris D. Lewis.

Cases include complex multi-jurisdictional and trans-national fraud schemes that result in significant financial losses to individuals, corporations and government.  ARB also investigates cases of political corruption, secret commissions, frauds related to the utilization and payment of health services, and multi-jurisdictional fraudulent schemes targeting seniors.  Additionally, the Branch has a unit dedicated to licensing and enforcement of the private investigator and security guard industry. As part of its criminal investigations, proceeds of crime investigations are also initiated to identify and seize assets obtained by the commission of enterprise crime.
