MANITOUWADGE, ON – September 16th and 17th, Manitouwadge High School Grade 11 Biology Class students and their teacher Mr. Gord Martin and chaperone Mrs. Lalonde, travelled into the bush, via school bus, to Russell’s Landing on Macutagen Creek approximately 30 minutes from Manitouwadge. The overnight trip was part of their studies of diversity of life both and included research and collection of data for a Ministry of Natural Resources Wildlife Habitat Project.

The class performed field work identifying species living in the forest and steambed in and around the creek, recording many of their findings and observations including those relevant to the MNR study.

Martin felt the trip had been very worthwhile “The students benefit from this hands-on learning in a way that cannot be duplicated in-class” several students from the class had never spent a night in the bush prior to this trip, no doubt the memories will be long lasting.
