Manitouwadge Town Council +Video

MANITOUWADGE, ON – Manitouwadge Town Council held it’s regular bi-weekly meeting yesterday evening, Wednesday, October 13th, 2010; in attendance were Clerk Cecile Kerster, Mayor John MacEachern and Councillors Donna Jaunzarins, George Bodak, Ray Lelievre, and Gord MacDonald as well as a larger than average audience.

In the audience, were just a couple of those running for council, in spite of CFNO news anchor Al Cresswell’s enlightening question at Candidates’ Night regarding how many of those running had actually been to council.

During the meeting, council agreed to provide a Letter of Intent, as did Marathon’s Town Council the night prior, addressing the air service being offered to the two communities plus Wawa, Hornepayne and Chapleau by John and Paula Godfrey owners of X-Ec Air Inc. As you will hear in an interview with Godfrey done by OntarioNewsNorth.com (to be posted later this evening) this brings the couple one step closer to knowing whether they will receive the collaboration they are seeking from these towns.  They have given the 5 communities a deadline of December by which to provide their letters of intent.

Economic Development Officer Dave Raymond spoke to Council & Mayor in regards to the Kiwissa Ski Centre to have ticket prices approved for the 2010-2011 season; Councillor Donna Jaunzarins inquired as to when residents can hope to see the hill open and Raymond offered December 1st as a potential date to begin snow making, should the weather cooperate.  Good news not only for Manitouwadge skiers but also those from across the Northshore who come to enjoy the first class skiing offered at the 9 run mountain (including a new run from last year that has yet to be skiied by the public!).

Council was ajourned approximately one hour after the meeting began, below is video of the meeting.  OntarioNewsNorth.com is currently working towards being able to offer viewers/readers council meetings via live stream once this takes place a higher quality audio can be expected, apologies for difficulty with last night’s sound, this video is being provided more to offer insight into how council is run for those who have expressed an interest.
