Human Remains Identified

DRYDEN, ON – Officers from the Dryden and Ignace Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have concluded an investigation that involved found human remains located along Highway 17, 25 km east of Ignace.

The remains were found on August 17, 2010 by individuals who were blueberry picking in the area.  These individuals in turn reported the discovery to the OPP in Ignace.

The investigation involved the assistance of the OPP North West Region Forensic Identification Unit, OPP Crime Unit personnel and a Forensic Anthropologist from the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto. 

A post mortem examination was conducted in Toronto and the individual was identified through the use of medical records. 

The deceased has been identified as Steven RAYCROFT, who would have been 55 years old.  He had no fixed address and was a transient person who frequently travelled across Canada. 

Police have concluded their investigation into the matter. No foul play is suspected.
