MNR Food Drive Challenge

Smokey says "HI!" to a friend, 5 year old Emeraude Charron who had some questions for him about hanging her Christmas stockings and fire safety.

MNR Forester & Smokey the Bear volunteering their time for a great cause.

MANITOUWADGE, ON – A familiar site this Saturday, November 27th, in the downtown parking lot where MNR staff and Smokey the Bear were on hand to share hot chocolate while accepting donations for the Manitouwadge Food Bank.  The Annual MNR Food Drive is a challenge across the MNR’s Northeast region, from the Quebec border through to Manitouwadge, as each office tries to see who can best fill their Conservation Officer’s (CO) truck with food donations for the local food bank.  Cash donations are also being accepted and are a good idea as MNR Forester Derrick Kershman explained, the Manitouwadge Food Bank is still stocked full from the Trick or Eat initiative spearheaded at Halloween by Councillor Natalie Labbee.

It is important that people don’t get the wrong impression however, food bank shelves are quickly depleated when comes time to make the Christmas Hampers and during the long winter months during which many who are employed seasonally can find their finances under extra strain.

The Manitouwadge MNR Detachment continues to accept donations (cash & non-perishables) through to December 15th encouraging everyone to stop by the office and add their donations to the big canoe which they also hope to fill to overflowing. A big thank you to the Manitouwadge MNR Detachment and students/families of Ecole Publique Franco-Manitou (the latter who were in attendance earlier in the day) for their continued efforts to help ensure the Holidays will be happy for all those who call Manitouwadge home.

Near the end of the afternoon, the CO's truck was quite full - great job Manitouwadge!
