POLKA DOT DOOR AND THE NEW MUSIC TO RECEIVE SPECIAL RECOGNITION AT THE 25TH ANNUAL GEMINI AWARDS

MasterWorks Program to be Continued by the Academy; Honours to be Presented at Upcoming Awards Shows

TORONTO, ON /CNW/ – The Academy is pleased to introduce the MasterWorks program at the 25th Annual Gemini Awards, a special tribute founded by the Audio-Visual Preservation Trust (AV Trust) in 2000 to honour culturally significant works. This year’s Television honourees – Polka Dot Door and The New Music – will be recognized at the upcoming Industry Galas taking place Tuesday, November 2nd and Wednesday, November 3rd.

“We are proud to continue the AV Trust’s tradition of paying tribute to programming that has resonated with Canadians over the years,” said Sara Morton, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. “Both of this year’s MasterWorks honourees have inspired generations of viewers and made a lasting impression on the television industry.”

Founded in 1996, the AV Trust carried out its mandate of protecting and promoting Canada’s audio-visual heritage until 2009. In the spring of 2010, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced that it would continue the AV Trust’s film and television-related activities. MasterWorks tributes for French-language television and Canadian film will be incorporated into the 2011 Prix GĂ©meaux and the 2011 Genie Awards respectively.
