Small Business Enterprise Centres Getting Results for Ontario Families
McGuinty Government Helps Entrepreneurs Create Jobs Across Ontario
The McGuinty Government’s Small Business Enterprise Centres (SBEC) have helped 13,600 Ontarians find jobs in the past year.
SBECs partner with municipalities to provide entrepreneurs with the tools they need to start and grow their businesses.
SBECs are part of the Open Ontario Plan that supports job creation, and enhances programs and services that matter to Ontario families such as education, health care and skills training. The plan is already helping small businesses by:
- Cutting small business corporate income tax from 5.5 per cent to 4.5 per cent and eliminating the small business deduction surtax on July 1, 2010.
- Harmonizing the sales tax resulting in savings of $4.5 billion per year in embedded taxes and $500 million per year in administration and compliance costs.
- Introducing the Open for Business Act to create faster and more streamlined government-to-business services.
QUICK FACTS
- There are 57 Small Business Enterprise Centres in Southern Ontario and the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry administers eight SBEC locations in the North.
- SBECs also offer the Summer Company Program that provides an opportunity for students to start and run their own summer businesses.
