Refurbished Groomer Arrives in Marathon

MARATHON, ON – Tuesday, November 24th, Marathon Sno-Kickers President Gord Linfield was thrilled to announce the arrival of the club’s newest groomer, the BR180 – 2000.  The Bombardier groomer, originally acquired in 2009 thanks to the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club’s Groomer Refurbishing Program, arrives just as Marathon received it’s first significant snowfall.

During the 2009-2010 snowmobile season, the Marathon Sno-Kickers had 66 member permit holders. Buying your Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trail permit from the Sno-Kickers helps ensure they have the funds required to maintain the network of OFSC trails around Marathon.

Though OFSC membership numbers are down across Ontario, it is predicted that with the OFSC’s many new upgrades, including:

  • The $10 Snow Guarantee (www.snowguarantee.ca) protecting permit holders if less than 31cm of snow falls with a $200 permit buy back;
  • An updated, much more interactive website including an interactive trail guide and access to the iSnowmobile iPhone App for sledding techies; and
  • ‘Classic Permit’ which is significantly reduced in price for owners of snowmobiles 15 years or older;

that Federation clubs, including the Marathon Sno-Kickers will be seeing a wave of new and returning snowmobilers returning to the trails.

The Marathon Sno-Kickers are a member club of the OFSC’s District 16 also known as the North of Superior Snowmobiler Association or NOSSA. The Marathon club hasbeen an integral part of the Superior Snow Challenge Loop which will be functioning without neighbouring club, the Manitou Sno-Drifters, this year.  The Sno-Drifters, who were based out of Manitouwadge but lacking enough volunteers to establish an executive this year, had shared grooming of the D110 with the Sno-Kickers.  Linfield told OntarioNewsNorth.com that the Sno-Kickers would continue grooming their 1/2 of the popular trail “People will be able to use the D110 as a scenic route, an afternoon ride for those staying in Marathon while snowmobiling.” said Linfield whoalso hold the position of  Operations Director for District 16.
