THUNDER BAY, ON – In what was a disappointing end to an otherwise incredibly successful rookie season, Thunder Bay’s Kelsey Tikka and her Sir Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks fell 1-0 in overtime to the Queens University Gaels in the finals of the 2010 Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) National Women’s Soccer Tournament.

In a game where Laurier dominated much of the possession, neither team were able to break the deadlock until the second half of extra time where Gael’s midfielder Riley Filion scored in the 107th minute of play.

Tikka, a former Lakehead Express S.C. player, was the lone bright spot on the day for Laurier, as she continued to receive individual recognition in her freshman year. Already named 2010 OUA West Rookie of the Year, and CIS National Rookie of the Year, Tikka picked up the 2010 CIS National Tournament MVP, and was named to the tournament All-Star Team.

Lakehead Express Soccer Club would like to congratulate Kelsey Tikka, and her Laurier teammate Amanda Mithrush on their successful rookie seasons.
