Chamber of Commerce Elections

MARATHON, ON – The Marathon and District Chamber of Commerce has anounced that nominations are now open for their elections, Wednesday, January 12th . Interested persons should send nominations via email to current MDCC President, Jeannie Allerton or by phone at 229-1846 to be added to the ballot. Not a member of the Marathon & District Chamber of Commerce (MDCC)?
There are many benefits to membership, among them are networking which occurs between members, the priveledge of being ‘in the loop’ regarding matters affecting businesses in Marathon & the district, receiving news of business development or other programs being offered by government agencies, discounts occasionally offered by member businesses to other members (including special reductions on adrates on OntarioNewsNorth.com), promotion of your business through chamber initiatives like the ‘Welcome to Marathon’ booklet, etc. Membership is available at varying levels to both businesses and individuals, contact Jeannie for more information.

ELECTED POSITIONS w/the MDCC

What is the role of an MDCC Director?

As a  Director you will be expected to:
  • Attendat least 4 meetings  in person*
  • Head one event or project during the calander year (example: membership drive or the upcoming Winter Carnival – headed by one of our directors).
*When you can’t attend and have a project/event on the go written reports are acceptable.

What is the role of MDCC Executive?

PRESIDENT 

  • To be able to lead and direct the MDCC though 2011 which looks like it’s going to be an exciting year for Marathon and District. 
  • Lead Meetings
  • Speak on behalf of Chamber
  • Attend events and Meeting that affect the Business Community and bring information back to MDCC meetings
VICE PRESIDENT
  • Should be looking forward to being president in 2012.
  • Fill in for the President should she/he leave or be absent

SECRETARY

  • Record all meeting notes, and distribute to members though various chanels available,
  • Keep copies of all written corespondence,
  • Write letters for Chamber as required,
  • Arrange media for announcements when required,
  • Pick up mail.

TREASURER

  • Received and deposit all funds,
  • Pay invoices,
  • Invoice new members,
  • Process year end statements and taxes
  • Present financial statements at each meeting.  
  • Help other levels of Government
  • Prepare Grant applications

The roles of Secretary and Treasurer can be handled by one person if necessary. 

The current members who have confirmed they will allow their names to stand on the 2011 election ballot are:

Current Chamber President Jeannie Allerton had this message for potential directors or executive members “This is your Chamber don’t sit there and complain, get up and make your opinions count!” adding that “My job and who ever takes over for me is to help guide you it’s your  job to make this a Great Chamber.”
