MANITOUWADGE, ON – Last Saturday, December 11th, the Township of Manitouwadge hosted their annual Community Christmas party. The fun began at noon in the Community Centre auditorium where Santa & Mrs. Claus were in attendance to have lunch with attendees. Hot dogs and refreshments as well as photos with Santa were worked by volunteers from the Manitouwadge Nursery School which used both stations as fundraisers.
Community Programmer Shawna Patterson, who organized the day’s fun, had 4 large tables set up with crafts; paper snowflakes and popcorn and dried cranberry garland to string, these where very popular with parents and children alike, keeping everyone busy throughout the afternoon. The afternoon also included a free draw, participants needed only offer an estimate of the number of lights on the town’s Christmas Tree, to qualify for their chance to win one of two baskets, one for adults, another for the children, filled with Holiday goodies. The winning ballot had guessed nearest the more then 1200 lights actually on the tree.
Later in the evening, an old fashioned Skating Party, complete with free hot chocolate was held in the Recreation Centre Arena. Many families attended the popular annual event, at which holiday lights are strung around the boards of the arena as the regular lights are dimmed, on the ice a couple benches flanked a giant inflatable snowman, allowing skaters a place to have a break when needed.
Paper snowflakes were pre-folded with suggested cut-outs shadowed, great for helping little ones have success with their craft.
A finished snowflake also makes a great mask.
