Folk Duo Perform In Manitouwadge (+Video/Photos)

Dala perform one of their own duets on the keyboard and their laughter is contageous spreading throughout the audience.

Sheila Carabine, the 'la' of Dala.

MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Nite on the Town Entertainment Series had a full house at the Manitouwadge High School Theatre auditorium Monday, December 6th as the Canadian Folk Music Awards 2010 Vocal Group of the Year, Dala performed.  Duo Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine (the duo’s name was formed by combining the two last letters of each artist’s name) treated attendees to a perfect mix of classic cover songs and original material, putting each into context with plenty of personal stories from the road and their personal lives.

Teased for being the 'da' ('duh') in Dala this blomb bomshell's vocal prowess makes it clear she's no dummy.

Carabine and Walther performed accompanying each other on guitar, ukulele  and keyboard both as a duet and individually, joking about the latter that the band had temporarily ‘broken up’ all the more funny in light of the sincere friendship between them.  The show was a true rollercoaster of emotions that had the audience roaring in laughter one moment and fighting back tears during a touching rendition of the Irish folksong “Red is the Rose” the next.

It came as no surprise to NOTES organizer Natalie Labbee that they were such a hit “When I saw them at Ontario Contact in Richmond Hill they were among the top acts Northwest Presenters considered as ‘must-have’ for their series’ and I was thrilled to welcome them to Manitouwadge”. Labbee has a reputation for knowing talent when she hears it, in 2011 the Series welcomes percussion quartet TorQ in January and Jim Witters in March.

Up next for the Nite on the Town Entertainment Series is their 2nd Annual Christmas Community Showcase fundraiser December 17th a beautiful evening of choirs, soloists, bands and carols that packed the theatre to near capacity last year. Admission for the Showcase is $5 + a non-perishable  donation.

As for the ‘Darlings of the Canadian music scene’ as Dala has been called, saying goodbye to many new fans and friends following their Manitouwadge performance they were headed back on the road for Dryden were they will perform Wednesday, December 8th.

New fan Emeraude Charron was glad to learn that Amanda (left) was challenged with being shy when her carreer as a performer began but overcame this with the help of her friend and musical partner Sheila (right).
