NIPIGON OPP SEIZE DRUGS FROM SUSPENDED DRIVER

NIPIGON, ON – December 28th 2010 Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting radar on Hwy 11 and 17, Town of Nipigon.  At approximately 8:55 a.m. police stopped a west bound Pontiac Sunfire for speeding.  The driver, a 35 year old male from Thorsby, Alberta was charged for Driving under License of Other Jurisdiction While Suspended in Ontario contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and for Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. 

Officers continued a road side investigation and during a search seized drugs from the driver, the passenger and the vehicle.  Police located approximately 54 grams of marijuana in the possession of the driver and the passenger, a 26 year old male also of Thorsby, Alberta.  Furthermore, approximately 60 grams of cannabis resin was located in the vehicle.

As a result, the driver and the passenger have been charged with offences contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act including Possession and Possession for the Purpose.  Both parties are to appear in Nipigon court on March 22, 2011.
