2010 HUNTING SEASONS DRAW TO A CLOSE

As the 2010 hunting seasons draw to a close, the Ontario Conservation Officers Association (OCOA) would like to take this opportunity to thank the tens of thousands of responsible Ontario hunters who helped to make this a safe and enjoyable hunt.

As stewards of the environment, Conservation Officers (COs) are responsible for protecting the natural resources of Ontario from abuse, and are also actively involved in enforcing the public safety legislation that keeps all resource users safe while they enjoy the great outdoors.

“Many of our members and their families are active hunters”, said OCOA President Mike Duncan, an avid hunter himself. “It’s very gratifying for us to see so many people respecting the laws that we enforce.”

The vast majority of hunters obey the laws that ensure the wildlife populations remain healthy for the continued enjoyment of hunters and non-hunters alike.  Unfortunately, there will always be a small minority of hunters who choose to break the law, and it is most often responsible hunters who report these violations – providing valuable assistance to investigating officers.

“Our members place a huge emphasis on ensuring that regulations are followed by all hunters.”, said OCOA President Mike Duncan. “Officers often place themselves in dangerous situations to enforce the legislation, and we appreciate the support we receive from the hunting community”.

The OCOA would like to wish everyone a safe and happy 2011 and we look forward to seeing you on the ice this winter!
