MDCC AGM & 2011 Elections

MARATHON, ON – January 12th the Marathon & District Chamber of Commerce (MDCC) held it’s Annual General Meeting and Elections at the Town of Marathon Municipal Chambers.  A group of approximately 20 were in attendance, less than was hoped as this is not representative of the membership’s steadily growing numbers, now including nearly 80 members from Marathon and district.

President Jeannie Allerton offered her Yearly Review, speaking about the successes of the past year including the “Welcome to Marathon” booklet, the MDCC’s participation in Summerfest, Open Air Market, donation to WMGH falls program, meetings with the town throughout the year, participation in the “Ride for Dad” for prostate cancer awareness, Superior North CFDC Open House and funding seminars, the involvement of chamber members in community events like Pizza Hut Mondays donation day, Canadian Tire Day, Barrick Gold involvement in community, and more including ‘Winterfest’, a.k.a. Marathon Winter Carnival planning and organization currently underway by the MDCC.  Allerton also included many thank you’s in her Review, to media and member businesses as well as the MDCC’s volunteers crediting everyone’s efforts for “Helping the chamber have a successful year”.

In her second position as the Treasurer, Allerton shared a financial report with members; it was suggested that the profit from Coupon Booklet sales be split between the Marathon Animal shelter, Marathon Community Police Board and Marathon Food Bank, the first meeting with the new board will be deciding on this matter.  Allerton had also audited the books for the year and all was in order.
