McGuinty Government Makes It Easier And Faster To Get Important Documents
Government publications ordered online through ServiceOntario will now be delivered to Ontarians within six business days, or customers may be eligible for a refund of up to $100.
Ontario was the first jurisdiction in North America to establish money-back service guarantees for birth, marriage and death certificates ordered online. And since the first service guarantee was introduced in 2005, there has been a 99.9 per cent success rate. These guarantees help make government services more accessible, convenient and cost effective for Ontarians.
ServiceOntario will now have eight money-back guarantees for on-time delivery of online requests for important documents, such as the Driver’s Handbook.
As part of the Open Ontario plan, the government is committed to providing access to online information such as registering a birth. And eliminating waste and finding savings will help protect services in schools and hospitals that are important to Ontario families and help reduce the deficit and eliminate it completely by 2018.

- ServiceOntario’s eight online service guarantees apply to applications for: Regular and Premium Birth Certificates, Regular and Premium Marriage Certificates, Regular and Premium Death Certificates, Master Business Licences and Publications.
- In 2009, ServiceOntario responded to more than a half million online requests for documents. And every business day, ServiceOntario fulfill over 225 requests for publications, shipping over 12 million copies annually.
- Some of the most popular paid publications distributed this year include: 148,800 Official Ministry of Transportation Drivers Handbooks, 27,000 Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments, 5,000 Ontario Traffic Manual Books, 4,000 Ontario Building Codes.
- Parents can now also apply for a birth certificate, a Social Insurance Number and Canada Child Benefits, including the Ontario Child Benefit, using Ontario’s online Newborn Registration Service.
