January  10, 2011

“I think kids in Thunder Bay are really going to take advantage of this initiative. On-line math tutoring is, quite simply, a practical, cost-effective and accessible way to help students succeed.” Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay-Superior North

Local students in grades 7 to 10 will benefit this year from online tutoring to help them succeed in math.  Almost 6,000 students in 55 Thunder Bay-area schools now have access to Ontario’s Homework Help program.

Homework Help is a free, confidential, real-time math tutoring service that connects certified Ontario teachers with students who are looking for extra support. The service also offers a number of resources that are available to students and parents at any time, including:

  • Videos of best-practice tutorials
  • Commonly asked questions
  • Interactive math games
  • A virtual locker, where students can save their work.

The Lakehead District School Board and the Thunder Bay District Catholic School Board are among the 31 school boards offering the program this year.
