Tractor Trailer Collision Near Deadhorse

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISIONS

MARATHON, ON –Over the weekend of January 21 to 23, 2011, due to severe weather conditions, the Marathon/Manitouwadge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several motor vehicle collisions (MVC) that occurred on Highway 17 in the Marathon area.

All the MVCs involved  property damage with only one involving minor personal injuries to occupants who were transported to Wilson Memorial General Hospital were they were treated for there injuries. 

One of the MVCs involved a tractor trailer (TT) travelling West bound in the Dead Horse Road area. The TT left the roadway after a curve and flipped over onto its side. The cargo was non hazardous materials but there was an unknown amount of fuel spilled from the TT fuel tanks. Ministry of Environment was contacted and are currently conducting a cleanup of the site. 

Cleanup of the site will continue today and possibly until Thursday night causing some traffic delays. Traffic delays should be minimal but Police ask the public travelling this area to drive with caution and be alert for slowed traffic due to this cleanup.
