MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, February 12thManitouwadge’s 2011 Frosty Days festivities presented the ideal opportunity for John Osiecki, creator of the Manitouwadge Mixed Arms arm wrestling club to organize the club’s 1stAnnual MMA event at KG’s Bar & Lounge. Osiecki competed at the Central Ontario Championships in Peterborough, Ontario as a novice, placing 5thfor right and left arm. The tournament reinvigorated an interest in the sport which 37 year old Osiecki had originally been introduced to as a teenager, competing against his older brother Mark.
The competition included categories for men, women and children; the men’s competitors being divided into light, middle and heavyweight. Children competed first as Jonah Oseicki, son of John (organizer) and Sera, proved that arm wrestling is in the genes, wining both the left and right arm competitions; his friend Lucas Moysey kept the competition tight and took 2nd. Jlian Nabigon won the teen showdown which followed while yet another Osiecki family member, Jonh and Sera’s daughter Kristin taking 2nd place and Brady Lamont claiming 3rd. The kids showed great sportsmanship throughout their matches providing an incredible show for spectators.
The adults’ face offs were intense, giving the crowd plenty of nail-biting moments.
