Tea Boiling Contest at BFN 2010 Mid-Winter Celebration

This coming weekend Batchewana First Nation (BFN) will be celebrating the third annual “Mid Winter Celebration”. This event brings our communities; Rankin, Goulais, Obadjiwan and Bawating together for a weekend of family activities and community empowerment. We would like to extend the invite to our friends, families and community members to join us February 18 fun filled weekend!

The weekend will kick off with a broomball tournament held from 5pm- 9pm at the outdoor rink in Rankin on Friday February 18, 2011. Tournament spectators can keep warm sipping Tim Horton’s hot chocolate and coffee while sitting by our community bon fire. Elders can avoid the cold and sharpen their cribbage skills at the social night held in the Elders complex from 6pm-8pm. Everyone is welcome to watch the firework show with us, after the broomball tournament commences.

Continuing on Saturday February 19th  the Batchewana First Nation Elders fundraising committee will be hosting a pancake breakfast from 8am– 11am at the Elders Complex.

BFN Elder will open the day with a prayer followed by song from our very own Grammy nominated drum group, Bear Creek at 11am outdoors at the Teen Centre.

Saturday’s all day events beginning at 12pm will include face painting, snow man building contest, tea boiling contest, buck saw contest, chili & fry bit cook off, sleigh rides, obstacle course challenge, snow ball throw competition, helicopter rides and much more!

There will be hot food available for purchase throughout the day with proceeds going towards the Little NHL.

On Sunday February 20, 2011 the dock in Goulais Bay will play host to this years Fish Derby! Join us from 12pm-5pm at the Goulais Mission Annex for a day of fishing, and prize giveaways. Transportation for Rankin residents will be available but limited.
