Thunder Bay, ON The Thunder Bay Chill returned from Winnipeg, Manitoba, this past weekend after sending eleven of the Club Reserve squads to the 2011 Golden Boy International Tournament. The tournament took place on the 17th to the 21st and featured 155 teams.

Of the eleven teams that traveled, five made it to the final round of their draws. The U11 Girls team experienced heart break, losing 3-2 in the finals against the Phoenix U11. The U18 Girls were shutout 3-0 in their final by the Portage Trail S.C. U18. Marco Colistro’s goal in the final of the U14 Boys division was not enough to secure gold, as his team lost 2-1 to the Portage Trail S.C. The U13 Boys had a successful tournament, reaching the finals, but were downed 3-0 by Phoenix U14 in the Championship match. Each  of the silver medalists fought hard in final games, after a long grueling tournament, and have much to look forward to heading into the outdoor season.

The Club’s gold medal was won by the U12 Boys, coached by Saverio Lento and Bill Ezzard. Matthew Pawlicki secured the win for the Chill in the 15th minute, and from there Goalkeeper Mitchell Mackett backstopped his team to the gold by making several key saves in the final minutes. Lento referenced his team’s strong defense as the determining factor in the final.

As the Club’s major indoor competition is completed, each team will now transition into the outdoor phase of the yearly calendar. For more information regarding outdoor tryouts for the Thunder Bay Chill’s competitive teams please go to www.thunderbaychill.com.
