MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, February 19th, Manitouwadge for Hockeyville volunteers were at the Rec Centre to draw and distribute prizes for those who participated in the initial voting (on the CBC.ca Hockeyville Nomination site) by posting stories and photos.  More than 70 prize packages (many consisted of a number of prizes together in a gift bag) were drawn.  Big winners included (Scroll to bottom of article for complete list):

  • Manitouwadge Minor Hockey Association Membership (2011-12) – Natalie Labbee
  • Netbook – Derrik Tirchman

…these were just a few of the larger prizes that were distributed by the Manitouwadge Minor Hockey Association volunteers who have been collaborating with businesses, groups and individuals in Manitouwadge to keep momentum building in regards to having Manitouwadge become KRAFT HOCKEYVILLE 2011.

March 8th the TOP TEN communities will be announced on CBC, OntarioNewsNorth.com will attend the party (hopefully to broadcast LIVE! though technicalities for that have yet to be ironed out); the group is hoping to have CBC’s coverage on the big screen at the auditorium in anticipation of the hundreds who will likely gather for the announcement.  Volunteers Kerri Jackson and Becky Gorges assured us it would be a party worth attending “Whether or not we are announced in the Top Ten the party on the 8th will be a great opportunity to thank everyone for their participation and celebrate our community spirit” said Jackson.

OntarioNewsNorth.com is still accepting video clips of groups and individuals shouting “Manitouwadge is Hockeyville” for our 2nd video-collage, thank you in particular to those who have submitted materials for this 2nd video (which will also include the shout-outs from the 1st such as Manitouwadge OPP Sergeant Hatch’s Don Cherry impression) including the Copper Kings Atoms, FALLEN ROCK Atoms (Schreiber), and Marathon/Manitouwadge Law Enforcement Hockey All-Stars – remember, the videos do NOT have to be of any special quality*, get original, dress in your jerseys, your swimsuits with skates or climb one of the many Hockeyville snow-sculptures and record you & your family, friends, class or group shouting “Manitouwadge is Hockeyville” for a chance to see your clip included in the OntarioNewsNorth.com MANITOUWADGE FOR HOCKEYVILLE VIDEO COLLAGE.- ENTRANTS NEED NOT BE RESIDENTS OF MANITOUWADGE. Submissions MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN THURSDAY MARCH 3rd, send your video clip (with a 2sec pause before and after your shout-out) to Editor@OntarioNewsNorth.com, please keep them to a maximum of 12 seconds in length.

Should Manitouwadge be named among the TOP TEN on March 8th,

…it will be important that everyone (including Northshore neighbours) return to nominate the community again.
