Nipigon/Schreiber OPP Weekend Review

OVERDUE SKIERS LOCATED

NIPIGON, ON –During the weekend of February 25 to February 27, 2011 Nipigon/Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 23 calls for service and issued 20 Provincial Offence Notices.  Officers conducted 3 R.I.D.E. checks and investigated 1 motor vehicle collision. 

Saturday February 26 at 7:35 p.m. three cross country skiers were reported overdue to Nipigon OPP.  A Thunder Bay resident reported that he attended the Nipigon Marina to pick up three friends who were skiing the trail system between Red Rock and Nipigon.   A 24 year old female and a 30 year old male of Thunder Bay, Ontario together with a 26 year old female of Kimberly, Ontario left Red Rock at approximately 3:00 p.m. and were unable to reach Nipigon during daylight hours.

The OPP Northwest Region Emergency Response Team located the missing parties at approximately 2:20 a.m. close to the Eagles Ridge Lookout.   The missing skiers were transported to Nipigon Hospital for non life threatening injuries.
