Wolverines and Lakers Claim Girls Volleyball Crowns

Manitouwadge captures a third consecutive NSSSAA Volleyball title.

Sr. Girls Champs, the Lakers with their NSSSAA Banner

TERRACE BAY, ON  – The Manitouwadge Wolverines won a third consecutive Jr. Girls Volleyball title with a 25-7, 25-11 win over the host Lake Superior Stingers.  Earlier in the day, the Wolverines defeated a strong St. Joseph team 25-7, 25-15.  St. Joseph took home Silver with a decisive 25-13, 25-10 win over Lake Superior.

In senior girls play, the championship was intense. In the first match of the day, the Hornepayne Hawks upset the favoured Nip-Rock Lakers in three sets. The Wolverines then edged the Hawks 28-26, 25-16. In the final match of the day, the Nip-Rock Lakers outlasted the Wolverines 25-10 and 26-24.  With all three teams winning one match in the round-robin, the Lakers were awarded with the banner based on points; the Lakers picked up an extra point due to a set win in their loss to Hornepayne. Congratulations to the Nip-Rock Lakers on their hard fought victory. They will now travel to Rainy River to play the Owls who were defeated by the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints from Kenora. NWOSSAA has two entries at OFSAA based on Kenora’s Silver medal a year ago.

A special thanks goes out to Mrs. McMillan and Ms Costa and their team of volunteers for putting together a fantastic NSSSAA Championship
