DEMAND FOR CCSVI TREATMENT GROWING: HUGHES

NDP MP Carol Hughes, Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing

Joins other New Democrats calling for liberation therapy in Canada

OTTAWA, ON – Canadians feeling the benefit of CCSVI (liberation therapy) are a motivating force in urging the government to take a closer look at the treatment for Multiple Sclerosis and make it available in Canada according to Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP, Carol Hughes.

Yesterday in parliament, Hughes joined other New Democrat MPs who also presented petitions with hundreds of signatures on the subject.

The petition calls on the Minister of Health to make CCSVI in Canada.  Currently, Canadians who want liberation therapy have to travel abroad since it has not been approved by Health Canada.

“It is evident that more and more Canadians are seeking this treatment in the hopes that their quality of life will be improved,” said Hughes.  “They are encouraged by the thousands of Canadians whose quality of life has been improved since they have undergone the procedure abroad. “

Hughes continues to pressure the government to make liberation therapy available in Canada based on the testimony she has heard from constituents who have seen improvements since travelling to receive the treatment.
