Ontario Minister Of Finance Dwight Duncan’s Statement On The 2011 Federal Budget

Finance Minister Dwight Duncan

Ontario needs a strong partner to help provide our families with the tools they need to succeed.

The federal budget missed an important opportunity to develop a more meaningful partnership on several issues, including strengthening Employment Insurance, support for job training and immigration settlement services

We are disappointed that there was so little in the federal budget about jobs – which is a focus for our government here in Ontario

Provinces need a sustained commitment to health care – and Canadians need to ask themselves who they want negotiating these agreements when they come up for renewal in only a few years time.

The federal government’s proposed increase to the Guaranteed Income Supplement is modest, and does not address the current challenges faced by Canada’s retirement income system – Ontario continues to call for reforms, including an enhancement of the Canada Pension Plan.

Ontario will be tabling its Budget next week on March 29, where we will outline our plan to build a stronger Ontario in a stronger Canada
