SOCIAL WORKERS… THERE FOR YOU!

If you know a social worker, the week of March 7 to 13 would be a good time to wish them a “Happy Social Work Week.”

The Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW) is celebrating National Social Work Week from March 7 to 13, 2011. The theme this year,

Social workers can be found in hospitals and community clinics, mental health settings, family agencies, schools, child protection agencies and children’s treatment centres, correctional services, seniors’ centres, private practices as well as in countless other publicly and privately funded organizations and agencies that serve Ontarians.

Few professions match social work for the wide variety of settings in which they work and the range of services they provide. Social workers work as front-line practitioners, clinicians, managers, supervisors and administrators. They are also therapists, educators and researchers. They work at all levels of government and some hold political office.

Social workers care about people. They are there for people at the most stressful times of their lives. They help people deal with day-to-day problems and get their lives back on track so they can lead positive and productive lives.

Social workers have the right education, experience and dedication to help people help themselves when they most need it. They are committed to preventing hopelessness, restoring hope and changing society for the better.

“There are close to 80 active members of the Ontario Association of Social Workers practicing in communities in the District of Thunder Bay,” says OASW Branch President, Teresa Legowski. “This is a wonderful time to acknowledge their contributions to a healthy society.”

Social Workers Are There For You, was selected to highlight the vital role that social workers play in providing services to people of all ages and from all walks of life in communities across Ontario.
