March Break! A much deserved break for hardworking students but sometimes a headache for parents who desperately seek ideas to keep the kids busy. I’ve got an idea- movies and video games! At Crossover Video and Games, we’ve got you covered with 9 new movie titles and 3 new game titles hitting the shelves this week. Let’s take a look at these titles;

  • The Fighter: starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo- The winner of 2 Academy Awards, The Fighter is the true story of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward and his brother who helped train him before going pro in the mid 1980s. (DVD and Blu Ray)
  • Hereafter: starring Matt Damon and directed by Clint Eastwood- A drama centered on three people — a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy — who are touched by death in different ways. (DVD and Blu-Ray)
  • A Shine of Rainbows: starring Connie Nielsen- A lonely orphan’s life is transformed by an extraordinary woman who teaches him to conquer grief and discover the magic in nature and himself. (DVD)
  • Bodyguards and Assassins: In 1905, the revolutionary Sun Wen intends to visit Hong Kong to discuss his plans for revolution with fellow Tongmenghui members. Ultimate goal is to overthrow the corrupt Qing dynasty. However, a group of assassins is sent to kill him. (DVD)
  • Carlos the Jackal: Winner of a Golden Globe Award- The true story of a Venezuelan militant convicted of murder in France who has worked with and for causes associated with communists, Arab nationalists and Islamists (DVD)
  • Chevolution: starring Antonio Banderas- A documentary on the iconography of Che Guevara. (DVD)

For the Gamers:

Homefront (PS3 and 360): A first-person shooter set in a near future America in 2027 when a nuclear-armed Korean People’s Army invades the USA

Warriors- Legends of Troy (PS3): Set during the ten year Trojan War and featuring supernatural elements, such as appearances from the Greek gods. Each level begins with a traveling bard telling the story of the war to an audience around a campfire.

Fit in Six (Wii): Fitness games for the Nintendo Wii never fail to be popular and this game should be no different. This is an intense exercise game that focuses on six body areas that includes: upper body, core body, lower body, cardio, flexibility and balance. Comes with a Ubisoft USB camera which will provide a picture-in-picture view. This will allow players to be able to compare their own movements with the in-game coach, resulting in more accurate replication of workouts.

As promised, today we’ll go over the latest handheld gaming device to (soon) hit the markets.

The official launch date for the Nintendo 3Ds is March 27th and Crossover Video and Games will have a limited quantity in stock on that day! The 3Ds promises to be a hit with gamers as it allows to the user to play games in 3D without the use of 3D glasses! Users will also be able to adjust the intensity of the 3D and can turn off the feature altogether if desired. The Nintendo 3Ds will launch with two colors; Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black (with more colors becoming available over time). There will be six games available on street date with titles ranging from Nintendogs (a pet game that allows users to make their own pet) to Steel Diver (a submarine shooter game). All six games will be in stunning 3D! For those of you who already own a DS, you’re probably wondering if you can play your old DS games on the 3Ds- the answer is yes but they will not be in 3D. And unfortunately, you cannot play 3Ds games on any other model of DS.  Here are a few of the other key features of the Nintendo 3Ds;

  • 3Ds Camera: Allows the user to take and edit high quality pictures in 3D!
  • Face Raiders: Allows the user to input their own face into their 3Ds and use it in different games!
  • Nintendo eShop: Gives the user access to several classic Nintendo brand games
  • Motion Sensor: The built in motion sensor senses motion and tilt of the system to allow for instant response
  • Adjustable Stylus Pens: Once removed from the holder, the stylus pen can extend to allow for more comfort and control while playing

These are just some of the many features on this impressive device. The retail price has not yet been determined, but I can assure you that our price will be competitive with major retailers. If you have any questions about the Nintendo 3Ds or are interested in possibly purchasing one, feel free to email us at crossovervideo@hotmail.ca or call the store at (807) 230-9093.

Thanks for reading! As always, have a safe week and don’t forget to support your local businesses!
