Northwest Region Forest Fire Report

The Northwest Region had two fires between April 11 and 14 the first was a 0.1 hectare lightning caused fire reported in the Thunder Bay district in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park.
 
The second was an industry caused grass fire reported in the Black Bay Peninsula 65km’s East, Northeast of Thunder Bay and is currently listed as a 3.0 hectare fire.
 
The weather forecast is calling for continued cool weather with rain and possibly snow for the weekend. The fire hazard is expected to remain low in the Northwest region.
 
District Fire Management Headquarters report there is still snow cover in forested areas with the exception of Fort Frances District that notes little snow coverage in the west end in open fields.

Forest fire danger in Ontario can be hazardous any time of the year, so everyone needs to be careful with fire. Composting, chipping and removal to approved disposal facilities are safer options than burning.
