New Members Appointed to North West LHIN Board of Directors


THUNDER BAY, ON
– Janice Beazley, Chair of the North West LHIN, is pleased to announce that Goyce Kakegamic and Dianne Loubier have been appointed to the Board of Directors.

Mr. Kakegamic’s three year appointment and Ms. Loubier’s two year appointment by the Lieutenant Governor in Council were endorsed by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Deb Matthews. Mr. Kakegamic’s appointment is effective June 16, 2011 and Ms. Loubier’s appointment is effective August 21, 2011.

Goyce Kakegamic’s professional career encompasses art, education and politics. Mr. Kakegamic was elected Deputy Grand Chief for Nishnawbe Aski Nation from1997 to 2006. He played a strong leadership role in having one of the campuses for the Northern Ontario Medical School set up in Thunder Bay. Mr. Kakegamic is currently Education Coordinator for Keewaytinook Okimakanak, a non political Chiefs Council that serves communities in northern Ontario. As an educator, he has taught in various communities in the north, served as Director of Education for Keewaywin First Nation and worked as a post secondary education counselor for the Department of Indian Affairs.In 2007, he was granted an Honorary Doctorate Degree by Lakehead University for his lifetime work for his art and efforts to improve the lives of First Nation peoples. Mr. Kakegamic is also an accomplished artist whose work is available in many prestigious art galleries across Canada.

Dianne Loubier She has extensive knowledge and expertise in all aspects of financial and human resource planning along with a strong understanding of governance practices and community health philosophy through her work with boards and senior management positions held throughout her professional career.

The North West LHIN is responsible for planning, integrating and funding local health services – hospitals, long term care facilities, the community care access centre, community health centres, community support services and mental health and addictions agencies. The North West LHIN and its Board of Directors are responsible for over $560 million of health care services delivered in Northwestern Ontario.

  • These appointments replace two board members whose maximum 6 year terms on the board are ending.
  • Currently, the Board of Directors is comprised of Jan Beazley (Fort Frances); Ennis Fiddler (Sandy Lake); Gary Phillips (Thunder Bay), Dianne Miller (Thunder Bay), Joy Warkentin (Thunder Bay), Dennis Gushulak (Ear Falls), Reg Jones (Thunder Bay), Dan Levesque (Geraldton), Anne Krassilowsky (Dryden).
  • Directors are appointed by Order-In-Council for a term of one to three years, subject to a six-year maximum.
  • Board members possess relevant expertise, experience, leadership skills, and have an understanding of local health issues, needs and priorities.
  • The Board of Directors is accountable, through the Chair, to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care for the LHIN’s use of public funds, and for its results in terms of goals and performance of the local health system.
