North West LHIN Invests in Hospital Upgrades

Capital Funding Ensures Continued Access to High Quality Care for Patients

“This funding will help provide a safer environment for patients. By enhancing a hospital’s ability to maintain its capital infrastructure, we continue to work to ensure that patients in our region have access to high quality health care, as close to home as possible.” Laura Kokocinski, CEO NW LHIN

The North West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is investing in infrastructure renewal projects for hospitals in Northwestern Ontario to ensure they continue to offer high quality care to local residents.

The North West LHIN is providing a total of $3,600,688 to the 13 hospitals in the region. This includes:

  • $205,142 to Manitouwadge General Hospital
  • $205,359 to The McCausland Hospital (Terrace Bay)
  • $206,272 to Nipigon District Memorial Hospital
  • $205,359 to Wilson Memorial General Hospital (Marathon)
  • $209,141 to Geraldton District Hospital
  • $214,185 to Atikokan General Hospital

$222,445 to Dryden Regional Health Centre

$231,735 to Lake of the Woods District Hospital (Kenora)

  •  $206,274 to Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital

  •  $276,615 to St. Joseph’s Care Group (Thunder Bay)
  •  $419,650 to Sioux Lookout Meno-Ya Win Health Centre (two sites)
  •  $353,962 to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre

"Our government is committed to providing northerners with the same level of health care as all other Ontarians. This investment of more than $3.6 million will go a long way towards ensuring that our northern hospitals can make needed repairs and upgrades, reduce their operating costs and create new efficiencies. I'm extremely pleased with our positive partnership with the North West LHIN, and the good work it does towards improving health care for people in Northwestern Ontario." Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay-Superior North

The funding is part of a $52.7 million announcement for infrastructure upgrades at hospitals across the province. The money will be spent on capital renewal projects such as upgrades to exterior finish, replacing roofs and windows, on lighting and energy retrofit projects, meeting accessibility requirements, or on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. By investing in infrastructure upgrades, hospitals can extend the life of a building or facility, as well as improve quality and functionality.

    QUICK FACTS

    • Funding is provided through the government’s Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF), which allows hospitals to decide where to invest the money and lets them proceed quickly with projects.
