Catholic Education Week at Our Lady of Lourdes School

During the week of May 1st to May 6th, Catholic Education week was celebrated across the province of Ontario.  Schools and Boards celebrated 168 years of success, serving as foundation for millions of students to develop their full spiritual, academic, physical and social potential.

The theme this year was: Rejoice in the Spirit.

MANITOUWADGE, ON – At Our Lady of Lourdes, we hosted events throughout the week.  On Monday, Mme Foucault-Clark’s grade 4 class invited their parents to come and build cranes with them, as a culminating task for their Science unit on Pulleys and Gears. Tuesday and Wednesday, Mme Hachey and Mrs. Vallieres organized and  hosted a Book Fair.  Tuesday evening was Open House, where the parents had the opportunity to visit the school, their children’s classrooms, and shop at the Book Fair.  In the Kindergarten class, Miss McCauley invited parents and students to come throughout the week and visit their newly hatched baby chicks and celebrate new life. Mrs. Giles invited the grade 4 students from the grade four class to her grade 1 classroom for a Reading Buddies activity.  The students read books on the subject of “living things”; the grade fours had specific questions to prompt the grades ones to share their understanding of the text. Each class prepared a poster to reflect on each sub-theme of Catholic Education week.  These were posted in the church as a visible sign of partnership between the school and church.  On Thursday, Father Manuel said a special mass celebration of Catholic Education.  At lunch time, Father joined the staff at OLOL for a special lunch at the school.

OLOL extends a huge THANK YOU to all our community partners for their constant support and collaboration.

Thursday and Friday, the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes School was pleasantly surprised to find delicious home-made muffin and other treats on the staff room table.

During the lunch hour, all staff members were treated to a special luncheon provided and prepared by the School Council.  Many thanks to our School Council members, parents who contributed the great lunch and treats and to the students who helped serve and clean up.
