Vital service returns to Manitouwadge as local business renovates

The clean, modern laundering facilities now located at 74 Huron Walk in Manitouwadge's Downtown core.

MANITOUWADGE, ON – Business owners, Kevin and Lana Nelson, have been the Superior Soft Water Culligan distributers in Manitouwadge for several years serving the entire region including the Northshore, both to the East and West, and Greenstone with environmentally and fiscally responsible,  residential and industrial water distribution, treatment and conditioning products and services.

When Manitouwadge’s laundromat closed, on the heels of the closure of the local hotel/motel, many regular visitors to the community, tourists coming for the snowmobile and ATV trails, hunters and anglers, contractors, tree planters and others began to dismiss Manitouwadge as an accomodations option due to the lack of yet another service which many saw as necessary if visiting for work or pleasure. Last month however, Manitouwadge’s visitor appeal was boosted as the Nelson’s renovated their downtown storefront transforming it into a full service laundromat with 6 washers, 5 dryers and large counter for folding clothes.

Speaking with Lana Nelson, she explained that the dryers are propane, which she says, dries clothes much more thouroughly and is more environmentally friendly, using less energy than the older style electric dryers.  The washers, have larger doors than is standard, allowing them to easily be loaded with blankets, work clothes, curtains or other large laundering items which can wear a home washing machine prematurely.  Finally, Nelson pointed out the surveillance cameras on site which provide a sense of security* to those who may need to step out while waiting for their laundry to finish washing or drying.

“We believed the need for a laundromat exists in Manitouwadge and decided that a renovation of the store front to include this would better serve our new and returning customers” said Nelson who feels the new laundromat will increase the appeal of the community to tree planters, as a place to replinish themselves and their supplies while out of the bush, and other contract and seasonal workers when deciding if they will use Manitouwadge as ‘home base’.  “It’s about our community having the ‘full package’, diverse services and products people are looking for when planning their trips/travels and considering Manitouwadge as a stop or stay- this is just another peice of the big picture” explained Nelson who promises that the laundromat’s hours of operation will accomodate any schedule.

The renovation was very diligently thought out, making new space for the retail Culligan products customers have come to depend on without crowding the store “It is important to us to continue growing the services and products we offer as Superior Soft Water Culligan, we continue to serve both residential and commercial customers including everything from simple home water dispensers providing clean, soft water that improves the taste of everything you make (tea, coffee, ice cubes, baby formula, etc)  to custom designed industrial water treatment systems.”
