Manitouwadge Mourns – Gordon E. Allen

ALLEN, Gordon E. – Passed away peacefully on Thursday June 23, 2011 at 1:30 a.m. with his loving wife Evelyn by his side. Gordon is survived by his wife Evelyn of 64 years. Loving father of Sharlene (Hector), Lavern (Bruce), Judy (Leroy) and Randy (Lola). Proud grandfather of Cynthia Carlson (Russ), Cassandra Duncan (Paul), Gordon Stratford (Jamie), Troy Halloran (Tina), Jason Tourout (Jenny), Kirk Tourout (Melissa), Melissa Togtema (Greg) and the late Tony Halloran. Great grandfather of Brittany, Carmen, Emily, Nathan, Brennen, Vanessa, Abigail, Jason, Liam, Deena, Devin, Nick, Jessica and Natasha. Great great grandfather of Cooper. Dear brother of Audrey Woods. Gordon was predeceased by his father Stanley, his mother Hazel, his brother’s Vernon, Roy, Clifford and his sister Jackie. He will be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews.

Gordon was born on September 7th, 1924 in Tomstown, Ontario and lived in the surrounding area until 1966 when he moved to Manitouwadge. He worked for Noranda Mine until his retirement in 1987. Gordon had many hobbies, he loved to fish, hunt, trap, play his violin, mouth organ and his guitar. He also loved his garden, curling, bowling and picking berries. Gordon’s children and grandchildren were the apples of his eye. He was a very proud father and grandfather. He was also a ‘surrogate grandfather’ to many of the neighbourhood children.

A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, Manitouwadge on Saturday June 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Doreen Sproule officiating. Interment at the Manitouwadge Municipal Cemetery. Memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association, Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
