IIFA Weekend and Awards Helps Strengthen Ties Between Ontario, India

The first International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards in North America wrapped up a successful festival in Ontario, bringing unprecedented international attention to the province.

The weekend ended with a tribute to legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor in a joint event hosted by IIFA and TIFF.

On Saturday evening, Premier Dalton McGuinty walked down the green carpet with Shah Rukh Khan and promoted Ontario to hundreds of millions of international viewers watching the awards ceremony. He thanked IIFA organizers for choosing Ontario and highlighted the strong cultural and economic ties between Ontario and India.

More than 300 business leaders and companies from India and Ontario met to explore investment opportunities during IIFA’s global business forum. Every year, Ontario and India share $1.6 billion in trade — a relationship which continues to grow.

Throughout the weekend, families across the GTA enjoyed South Asian film, culture, food and music festivities. The IIFA Awards Weekend helped promote Ontario as an international destination for tourism, culture and business.
