Chill Defeat Division Rivals

July 8, 2011

Des Moines, IA – The Thunder Bay Chill defeated division rivals, Des Moines Menace, 1-0 Friday Night at Valley Stadium. In a game where both teams favoured defense, the winning goal was scored by Brandon Swartzendruber in the 40th minute.

The Chill showed fatigue early in the fifth game of a six game road trip, but were able to shake it off in the 40th minute when Nolan Intermoia and Gustavo Oliveira combined for a passing play that led to a Brandon Swartzendruber goal. The Chill then locked down and showcased the defensive stronghold that has seen the team give up only four goals in eleven regular season games.

With the win, the Chill climbed into second place, jumping over Des Moines. The teams will face-off in a rubber match tomorrow (Saturday) night at 8:30 p.m. (EDT) at Valley Stadium, in Des Moines, Iowa. A win for the Chill tomorrow night will see the Thunder Bay side claim top of the table in the Heartland Division, moving ahead of the Real Colorado Foxes.
