Chill too Strong for WSA Winnipeg

Swartzendruber was fed through by Victor Nascimento in the opening minute, and the Chill forward barely gave his opponents time to lace up their cleats before the game was 1-0. In what has become the story of the season, the Chill battened down the hatches for the rest of the game, giving up few offensive chances to Winnipeg. The action picked up in the 63rd minute when a Chill corner kick was flicked on by Jordain Farahani and Captain Wilson Neto’s low drive found the back of the net. In the 65th minute, Winnipeg Forward, Jonathan Hernandez was sent off with a red card, after being shown his second yellow of the game. The Chill did not wait to take advantage, as Abraham Gomes took a shot from outside the box, giving his team the 3-0 lead. Up a man, the Chill kept possession for the rest of the game, with the fourth goal coming from Felipe Souza in the 76th minute off a deflected Gomes free kick.

Winnipeg’s Hernandez (two yellows resulting in red) and Ivan Garcia, and the Chill’s Cody Shelton were all shown yellow cards in the match.
The two shutout wins over Winnipeg means the Chill have only given up six goals in fourteen games; a stat that Head Coach Tony Colistro believes is the key to his team’s success. “We have been successful this season on the road, at home, and in consecutive games all because of defense.” With a key playoff shaping series next weekend against the Real Colorado Foxes, Colistro knows his team has to continue to keep the ball out of their own net. “We are looking for two wins out of two, and no goals against, that is always our mentality,” said Colistro .
The Chill will have time off before facing the Real Colorado Foxes, Friday, July 22nd and Saturday, July 23rd, at Chapples Park, Thunder Bay. The two games mark the Chill’s final games of the regular season, and will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. (EDT)
