Couple Killed in Red Lake Collision – Alcohol A Factor

OPP INVESTIGATING FATAL COLLISION

RED LAKE, ON –The Red Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a fatal single motor vehicle collision which occurred at approximately 1pm CST on July 14, 2011.  The collision occurred on Nungesser Road approximately 60 kilometres north of Red Lake.

Members of the OPP Highway Safety Division, Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, Forensic Identification Unit and Red Lake Detachment attended the scene.

The investigation revealed that a single pick up truck was travelling Northbound on the Nungesser Road when the vehicle rolled several times.

Two passengers of the vehicle, Kevin G. SUGGASHIE (39) and Ibena SUGGASHIE (37) of Pikangikum were pronounced dead at the scene.

A female passenger, Rexana PETERS (33) of Pikangikum has been transferred to the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre where she is being treated for minor injuries.

Charges are pending against the driver of the vehicle, Bernie K. PETERS, age 36 of Pikangikum.  Alcohol was a factor in this collision. PETERS is currently being treated for life threatening injuries  in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
