Manitouwadge Town Council – July 13 2011

MANITOUWADGE, ON – The July 13th regular meeting of council was held as scheduled in the Council Chambers of the Township of Manitouwadge. Unfortunately the Agenda was never made available online and at this point has yet to be.

Many interesting issues were tabled during the meeting including review of a document created by Community Services Director Dave Raymond. Raymond drafted a document for volunteers to sign when giving their time to the municipality for any tasks, necessary to ensure they are covered in case of any accident or incident but which will also be used in creating a ‘volunteer pool’ of sorts to assist when township staff are looking for volunteers to assist with programs, events and maintenance of places like the Golf Course or Ski Centre. Council members praised Raymond for his efforts and work on the document, several minor changes had to be made but the overall consensus is that it was a document which is necessary especially as Councillor Donna Jaunzarins put it “These are the times we live in” in regards to the need for having volunteers sign the waiver portion of the document.

Superintendent of Public Works Omer Collins explained his efforts to communicate with the Ontario Electronic Stewardship program in regards to Manitouwadge being an official depository for e-waste. This was enthusiastically supported by all of council. Councillor Connie Hunter explained her recent participation in the collection day held in Manitouwadge by the RecycleYourElectronics Tour, June 26th [CLICK HERE to see coverage of that including video and how pleased she was that Collins was following up with having this be part of the services offered at Manitouwadge’s Landfill site. Collins explained that he is currently in the process of getting the initiative set-up and assured OntarioNewsNorth.com after the council meeting that he will be in touch to advise of the drop-off being available as soon as set-up has been finalized.
