WHAT’s IN A NAME?

After consultation with the Public, the Board of Governors of The McCausland Hospital chose the name for the Long-Term Care facility in Terrace Bay. It was to be known as “Wilkes Terrace“.

The Board of Governors announced the facility’s name Friday, December 3rd, 2010 following a month of public consultation with the residents of the catchment area.

“The Board felt the name should reflect an ode to the past (Birchwood Terrace) as well as a permanent memorial to Dr. Keith Wilkes”, said Paul Paradis, CEO of The McCausland Hospital. More than 50 names were submitted during the public consultation. They reflected geographical, cultural and emotional suggestions.

Construction of the new Long-Term Care facility has been made possible through the support of the provincial government’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and the residents of the catchment area.
