NIPIGON BREAK AND ENTERS

FROM/DE:    Nipigon Detachment                                         DATE:  July 18, 2011

NIPIGON, ON –July 6, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a break and enter at a Nipigon residence.  Property was damaged and alcohol was taken from the residence.   Earlier this same day a Nipigon resident reported to police that a suspicious person was in a residential area during the early morning hours.  It was later learned that insecure vehicles had been entered and property removed.

Most people would prefer not to get involved, even when the incident might be causing damage to property belonging to neighbours, friends, or even family.  You feel reluctant to call the police because you can’t even be sure if what you see or hear in your neighbourhood is worth being reported.

There’s no question – you should call!  That’s one reason why the Ontario Provincial Police have a non emergency number:

1-888-310-1122

Calls to this number will not trigger an emergency response.  This number is for public use to contact the police to report non emergency incidents, if the threat is no longer present or the perpetrators have left the area.

If someone has been injured or there is imminent danger to life or property, do not hesitate to call the 9-1-1 emergency line.

Citizens working together with the OPP can have a positive impact on crime prevention.  If you see someone in your neighbourhood or on your neighbour’s property that is suspicious, don’t hesitate, call the police.  Any information that you report may assist the police to solve or prevent crimes in our communities.
