Northeast Region Forest Fire Situation Update

July 3, 2011 – 4pm

Two fires were reported in the Northeast Region on Saturday, July 2. Chapleau 6 was reported northwest of Kapuskasing Lake and is under control at 0.5 hectares. Wawa 16 was reported north of Caramat and is out at 0.1 hectares. There were two new fires reported by the evening of July 3. North Bay 17 was reported south of Temagami and is not under control at 0.5 hectares. Wawa 17 was reported east of Little Abitibi Provincial Park and is not under control at 0.1 hectares. No issues are anticipated with these fires.

Southeastern Ontario and the far north will see clouds with showers and a risk of thunderstorms, while sunny and dry elsewhere. Winds will be light to moderate. Temperatures will be in the high twenties, but drop to high teens in the far north. 

The fire hazard is high throughout the entire Northeast Region. Fire activity is expected to increase with drying and lightning across the province.

Planning on enjoying a campfire this weekend?  Keep your fire small, build it on bare rock or dirt, never leave it unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site.
