WAWA MAYOR DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY TO RECEIVE EVACUEES FROM NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO

WAWA, ON – The many forest fires in Northwestern Ontario have caused concerns in many First Nations communities with officials in thos communities deciding to evacuate their residents.

Communities across Northern Ontario have agreed to host these evacuees and at 4:15pm this afternoon a State of Emergency was declared in Wawa in order to host approximately one hundred (100) affected residents from Northwestern Ontario.

“All evacuees will arrive by air transport and then be transported to a creception centre that has been set-up in Wawa,” state Mayor Linda Nowicki.  The Mayor then went on to say that “all precautions were being made to ensure the safety and security of our visitors.”

The Ministry of Natural Resources are using water bombers and fire crews are hard at work in attempt to gain control of the many fires.
