MANITOUWADGE, ON – In April 2010 OntarioNewsNorth.com reported of a formal partnership being announced between the Canadian National Institue for the Blind Eye Van (CNIB) and the Northern Diabetes Health Network (NDHN) in an initiative funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to bring screening and education about diabetes, a disease which can contribute to serious eye problems and even blindness, to people in northern communities without the same access to services available in larger centres.

The CNIB Eye Van’s diabetes screening and education to remote communities it visits in Northern Ontario, then 30 towns in all, has continued successfully since then. Last September (2010), the Manitouwadge Diabetes Health and Welleness Program hosted a Diabetes Health Fair to coincide with the CNIB Eye Van’s visit  which was very successful.
