CROSSOVER INSIDER – NEW RELEASES & Adventures in the West

A view of the Forks Market, at the Forks in Winnipeg.

Main Street St.Lazare Manitoba.

Welcome sign to St. Lazare - at the time of the flooding nearly the whole sign was submerged in water.

I’m back! On Monday evening, I returned home from an awesome vacation in Manitoba. My home base for the bulk of the trip was the small village of St.Lazare, a predominantly French speaking village of about 265. This is where my Mom grew up and where my Grandma, Aunt, Uncle and Cousins still call home. If the name sounds familiar, it may be because of the flooding that occurred there this spring. I had an opportunity to tour the flood sites and see firsthand the kind of devastation that was caused to people’s houses and farmland. But, the people of St.Lazare are resilient and are still in good spirits in spite of the sandbagging and stress. From St.Lazare, my family and I proceeded to Winnipeg where we witnessed a fantastic family wedding while staying in the historical (and reputedly haunted) Fort Garry Hotel. We also had the pleasure of browsing the unique shops and vendors at “The Forks”, an indoor/outdoor historical park site located in the heart of Winnipeg.  See the pictures…

Some of the remaining flood waters. At the peak of the flood, the water extended all the way to where the water is in the background. Many farmer's fields were ruined.

Another highlight of the trip was meeting and visiting with a fellow movie and game store owner. Tom Bruner and his wife Lana were both managers at Movie Gallery locations at the time of the company’s closure. Tom, like myself, saw the potential of the business and with the help of Lana, he opened the doors to “T&L Entertainment”, a friendly and welcoming shop located in downtown Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. If you ever happen to find yourself in Portage La Prairie, be sure to look for the yellow T&L sign on the main strip!

As nice as it is to get away, it’s always nice to come home and get back into the routine! Also, in my case, back down to business! Just because I was away, the new movies did not stop coming!
