Among the activities enjoyed by residents of all ages was Friday evening’s live concert featuring local talent and Australian Guitarist Daniel Champagne. The concert, originally scheduled to take place at the ball field was moved indoors to the recreation centre auditorium due to intemperate weather though this did not deter music lovers from enjoying the evening which included a bbq and By-Law Officer Cherie Gray’s prize distribution for participants of the ‘Fun in the Sun with your Pet’ photo contest.  Though the Beer Gardens had to be cancelled when the venue changed, many of those who were attending for this ‘adult’ portion of the evening were able to wet their lips at the Loft Bar & Grill in the Community Clubhouse behind the Recreation Centre.

Saturday, August 13th,  saw an Emergency Services fair in the Ball Field which hundreds of people came to observe as members of several branches of the Ontario Provincial Police provided demonstartions of their specialized equipment, K9 partners and more – Patterson credited Manitouwadge OPP Sergeant John Hatch with coordination of the popular display.  Also on hand were crews and equipment from the Superior North EMS and Manitouwadge Fire Department.

Meanwhile inside the Recreation Centre Jungle Cat World offered two seperate shows, in the a.m. and p.m., introducing approximately 10 creatures their audience, representing each of major groups- arachnids, reptiles, birds and mammals, during their one hour presentations.  Kids and adults were called onto the stage to assist with holding the creatures or simply to have an opportunity to pet them, I couldn’t resist and was thrilled to pet the lynx they brought out, very different from those native to our area it was significantly larger though only about a year old.  Those at the afternoon show who did not have an opportunity to check out the 8ft snake which the presenters had introduced were thrilled when he was brought back out, into the arena, for photo ops afterwards.
