White River Residents Accessing Educational and Training Opportunities

EDUCATION GOES A LONG WAY

Contact North Is Here To Help Your Reach Your Potential

WHITE RIVER, ON – Living in a small community doesn’t mean that education is not available.  With Contact north’s distance education technology, you can study right here in White River, either from our centre or from home.  The complete list of programs and courses available through Contact north is available on our websit at www.contactnorth.ca. The Fall 2011 Course Guide is also available.  If you have not already received your copy, please contact the access centre at 822-2829.

Restructuring and the changing job market lead many to consider retraining or new career paths. You can take a specific course to reach a certain skill level, or you may wish to complete one of the many certificate or dipoloma programs available. Contact North works with Ontario’s colleges, universities, and essential skills organizations to bring you a wide variety of programws and training opportunities.  Full-time programs being offered this Fall 2011 inclue Business Administration, Law Clerk, Office Administration, Personal Support Worker, Recreation and Leisure Services and Social Service Worker, just to name a few.

Some worry that they have been out of school too long or that their past grades won’t get them into the program they want. There is no need to be intimidated; our staff is ready to help you navigate the system. If you need to complete you General Equivalency Diploma (GED, Grade 12 or Secondary School Diploma equivalent) or if you want to take basic skills traiing, we can help you accss the necessary courses. For those who are ready to dive into a complete program, note that the entrance requirements for mature students ast most colleges and universities are different from those for a student coming fresh out of high school (and a ‘mature’ student is not determined by age but rather by the time you spent you left or completed post secondary studies, to determine your student status contact the acces centre). Admission can often be based on work and life experiences since leaving school.

How to finance one’s studies is a major question for students of any age.  Being abl to remain in the community, perhaps working while studying, can help alleviate some of the financial stree. We can also hlp you locate other sources of funding from Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) to scholarships and bursaries.

At Contact North’s White River Access Centre we want to help you achieve your goals.  To explore and discuss your options, please contact Marg McMillan at 822-2829 or WhiteRiver@ContactNorth.ca, or visit www.ContactNorth.ca we look forward to hearing from you and assisting in your continued or renewed pursuit of post-secondary education and/or training.
