MARKHAM, ON – September 15th through 18th a delegation of club members from the Dubreuilville Alouettes Snowmobile Club (District 13) participated in the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) 2011 Annual General Meeting and Conference, an opportunity to network, discuss snowmobiling, trail maintenance and creation, challenges and successes at club, district and federation levels.  Every year one of the highlights of the Annual gathering of snowmobile club volunteers and OFSC staffers is the Award Ceremony and supper.

Two Alouettes volunteers are especially well known, one might even say famous, in the snowmobiling community and their noteriety is a large part of why the club was recognized this year with a prestigious communications award.

Dubreuilville Alouettes Snowmobile Club representatives, left BIG RED (aka Réjean Raymond) and right THE GROOMER GUY (aka Luc Levesque) with their 2011 Ted Day Communications Award.

You may not recognize their club President, Réjean Raymond by name unless you are involved with the OFSC’s District 13 or have known him through his roles within the township in Dubreuilville, (he has worn many hats within the township and currently works as CAO of Dubreuilville) there is no doubt that if you are a snowmobiler living in the USA or Canada you’re likely familiar with his alias, Big Red from the Alouettes SC.  Likewise the name Luc Levesque probably doesn’t ring any bells unless you follow Dubreuilville politics (he’s currently serving his 2nd term as Town Councillor) or have shopped for necessities while visiting the town (when he isn’t serving his community as an active volunteer on the Snowmobile and ATV Clubs he works at the Quickee Mart which he owns) but if you have ever put track to trail in North America you’ve certainly heard of Levesque in his role as The Groomer Guy.  (Watch the video below to learn a little more about the guys’ aliases).

The award with which the Dubreuilville Alouettes SC was recognized at this year’s ceremony is the 2011 Ted Day Communications Award recognizing Raymond, Levesque and their snowmobile club for their acheivements in developping and delivering a successful social media strategy for the benefit of Dubreuilville and of snowmobilers in general.

“This award means a lot to me and I’m very proud that our club won it as I had always held winning the award among my goals.” said The Groomer Guy, Luc Levesque. “I knew Ted Day, and had had the opportunity to ride with him. I was saddened when I heard of his passing. Ted was a long time supporter of the Alouettes and had always encouraged my efforts.  He had been vocal about his belief in my work with the Trail Reports telling me to keep it up.” finished Levesque, clearly moved both by memories of Day and by the OFSC’s recognition.
